The Power Station of Art (PSA) was established on 1 October 2012 and is the first state-run museum dedicated to contemporary art in mainland China. Formerly the Nanshi Power Plant, the PSA is the home of the Shanghai Biennale and was also the ‘Pavilion of Future’ during the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. Standing tall next to the mighty Huangpu River, the PSA occupies an area of 42,000 square meters and its 165-meter tall chimney has become an integral and recognisable part of Shanghai’s skyline.
